The following is a keyword-based index of the articles which appeared in the Journal of United Nations Philatelists during essentially its first thirty years beginning with volume 1 through volume 30. Beginning with volume 21 an annual index has appeared at the end of the December issue of the Journal.

Since much of the material which has appeared in the Journal appeared in untitled articles or in articles with generic titles such as Notes, it has been necessary to reference subject matter through a judicious choice of keywords. In order to facilitate tracking down ideas, the index contains considerable redundancy. For example to find Danish UNEF parcel cards, one can look under Parcel cards / Danish UNEF or under United Nations / Peackeeping Forces / Emergency Force(UNEF) / Danish Parcel Cards or under United Nations / Emergency Forces/Danish parcel cards.

Specialized agencies or international conferences whose names begin with the words United Nations can be found by looking first under United Nations. A meter cancel from the Brussels office of the United Nations Information Office can be found either under United Nations / Information Office / Brussels office. However a separate category has been included for doing searches for meters. Hence the meter cancel can also be found under Meters / UNIO-Brussels / New meter.

In the course of thirty years under the stewardship of nine editors occasionally inconsistent notation (either deliberately or by mistake) has been used to identify issues. The only dependable way of identifying a particular issue is by the month and year of appearance. In the section labelled CAUTION on the next page are listed the issues for which the volume number and/or issue number and/or whole number is incorrect. On the following pages one can find for each of the 115 issues contained in this index, the correct volume number, issue number and whole number. In this work keywords are indexed by volume number, issue number, page number. The index indicates that Danish UNEF parcel cards can be found on 1-1, 19, that is, Volume 1, Issue 1, Page 19.

An attempt has been made to make the index as comprehensive as possible. However, compromises had to be made to keep the length of the index reasonable. I hope that you find it useful.

The cover of the June 1979 issue gives the whole number incorrectly as 10 instead of 11. The mailer is correct.

The pages and cover of the August 1983 issue give the volume-issue number correctly. The mailer gives the volume-issue number as 6-5 instead of 6-6 and the whole number as 35 instead of 36.

The pages of the December 1989 issue incorrectly give the volume-issue number as 13-1 instead of 13-2. The cover and mailer are correct.

The pages of the February 1990 issue incorrectly give the volume-issue number as 13-2 instead of 13-3. The cover and mailer are correct.

The pages of the April 1990 issue incorrectly give the volume-issue number as 13-3 instead of 13-4. The cover and mailer are correct.

Whole number 96 was skipped. The October 1993 issue should have been whole number 96 but was labeled 97. The April 1994 issue was numbered 99A to get the whole number correct again. The whole numbers from 1 through 95 and 100 to date are correct.

The pages of the February 1994 issue incorrectly give the volume-issue number as 18-2 instead of 18-1. The cover and mailer are correct.

The pages of the February 1995 issue correctly give the volume-issue number as 19-1. Both the cover and the mailer have the correct volume number. The whole number on the cover and mailer is incorrect and should be 104.

The pages of the April 1995 issue correctly give the volume-issue number as 19-2. The whole number on the mailer and the cover is incorrect and should be 105.

The table below shows for each issue of the Journal, the volume and issue number, the whole number, the date and the page numbers appearing in each issue.

There are a few anomalies in the page numbering. However, using the volume number and issue number given in the Index. You will be able to identify without ambiguity the date of the issue that you are seeking.
